Contemporary Modular Extension To Bungalow

Contemporary Extension To Bungalow

This project has now been completed, and we are currently awaiting updated site photos to showcase the final build. The contemporary extension to a 1950s bungalow was designed using modular principles to enhance both functionality and aesthetics.

The new extension, clad entirely in charred timber, houses an open-plan lounge, kitchen, and dining area. Above the lounge, a vaulted mezzanine serves as a versatile hobby space or home office, maximising vertical space while maintaining a modern feel.

The remainder of the property has been reconfigured to create four bedrooms, with a flexible space that can function as a snug, playroom, or guest bedroom. The core of the house has been transformed into an expansive atrium, bringing light and openness to the central living area.

This is a great example of how both traditional and modern design and construction methods can enhance an existing property without the need to start from scratch. By blending the timeless appeal of traditional materials, like charred timber, with the efficiency and sustainability of modern modular construction, we’ve created a seamless extension that complements the 1950s bungalow while elevating its functionality and aesthetic appeal. This approach allows for a thoughtful transformation that respects the original structure while incorporating innovative solutions for contemporary living.
