Modular Extension and Garden Studio

Modular Extension and Garden Studio

We’ve successfully received planning and listed building consent for a contemporary modular extension to this cottage, as well as a detached garden studio. This project exemplifies how modular design can be integrated into historic settings while maintaining a modern, sustainable approach.

The extension will be constructed using a modular system with SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels), providing both energy efficiency and rapid assembly. The new volume will feature a striking black timber-clad exterior, complementing the cottage’s traditional charm while introducing a sleek, contemporary aesthetic. The open-plan layout will house a spacious lounge, kitchen, and dining area, designed to foster a sense of openness and connection with the surrounding environment.

A glazed link will seamlessly connect the main extension to a master bedroom with an en suite, offering a private, light-filled retreat. This connection between spaces will ensure a harmonious flow throughout the property, balancing modern living with the cottage’s original character.

The detached garden studio will provide a versatile space, ideal for a home office, studio, or guest accommodation, further enhancing the property’s functionality. The entire project will incorporate sustainable features such as energy-efficient materials and eco-friendly heating solutions, ensuring minimal environmental impact while modernizing the home for contemporary living.

By using a modular system, the construction process is streamlined, allowing for faster completion and reduced disruption, all while preserving the cottage’s historic charm. This project highlights the flexibility and benefits of modular design in preserving the character of a property while meeting the demands of modern living.
